The Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) in Osun State has urged Governor Ademola Adeleke to make inclusiveness a defining feature of his second term, calling for a fair spread of government appointments, projects and resources across the state.
IPAC made the call in a congratulatory message following Adeleke’s victory in the August 15, 2026 Osun governorship election. The council said the renewed mandate came with greater responsibility for the governor to serve residents across political, geographical and social divides.
The statement, signed by IPAC Osun chairman Dr Tosin Odeyemi of the Democratic Leadership Alliance, also praised voters for participating peacefully in the election and commended institutions and groups involved in the electoral process.
The council’s message shifts attention from the concluded campaign to the governance expectations that will accompany Adeleke’s return to office.
A major issue raised by IPAC was the distribution of government resources and opportunities.
The council asked Adeleke to ensure that appointments, policies and development projects reach communities across the state’s three senatorial districts, 30 Local Government Areas and Area Office.
IPAC said the governor’s second term should not result in a reduction in the pace of government activity. Instead, it urged the administration to build on its first-term programmes while introducing initiatives capable of producing lasting benefits for Osun residents.
The council identified several sectors where it expects stronger delivery:
- Education
- Healthcare
- Agriculture
- Roads and other infrastructure
- Youth employment
- Social welfare
The emphasis on geographical balance is particularly significant in a state where political competition has remained strong. IPAC’s position suggests that the post-election phase should focus less on partisan divisions and more on ensuring that government programmes reach communities regardless of their political affiliations.
According to IPAC, Adeleke’s re-election represents renewed public confidence in his administration but also places a greater burden on the governor to demonstrate results.
The council warned against complacency following electoral victory, arguing that the period immediately after re-election should be used to consolidate existing programmes and begin projects with long-term value.
The appeal comes amid previous claims by the Adeleke administration that it has pursued development across infrastructure, healthcare, education and workers’ welfare.
During the election campaign, Adeleke also defended his record and argued that his administration had distributed infrastructure projects without regard to political affiliation.
The governor will therefore enter the next phase of his administration under pressure to demonstrate that the promises made during the campaign can translate into measurable improvements in residents’ daily lives.
Beyond physical development, IPAC urged Adeleke to broaden participation in government by drawing on expertise outside his political camp.
The council specifically encouraged the administration to engage:
- Opposition political parties
- Technocrats and professionals
- Women
- Young people
- Persons with disabilities
- Traditional institutions
IPAC argued that governance should not be restricted by party lines and that Osun could benefit from ideas and expertise available across the political and social spectrum.
The call comes after a closely contested election in which political competition remained intense. Before the poll, Adeleke and opposition parties exchanged accusations over governance, development and the distribution of opportunities in the state.
A more inclusive approach could therefore help the administration reduce political tensions and create wider ownership of government programmes.
IPAC also commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), security agencies, media organisations, civil society groups and other stakeholders for their roles in the August 15 election.
The council described the election outcome as an indication of renewed confidence in Adeleke’s leadership and praised Osun voters for turning out to exercise their franchise peacefully.
Its position also places responsibility on political actors to preserve the stability that followed the poll and ensure that electoral competition does not continue to dominate governance after the results have been declared.
While congratulating Adeleke, IPAC made clear that its support will not amount to unconditional endorsement.
The council said it would continue to play a constructive role in Osun’s development, promising to criticise government policies on their merits while supporting programmes that advance the interests of residents.
That position could make IPAC an important voice during Adeleke’s second term, particularly on issues involving transparency, equitable development and public accountability.
For the governor, the central challenge will now be turning electoral support into effective governance across the state.
With the election behind him, attention is expected to shift towards whether Adeleke can sustain his administration’s development agenda, broaden participation in government and ensure that no section of Osun feels left behind.
